Prayers

"Prayer is the best weapon we possess, the key that opens the heart of God."

1. A Prayer

O God, You gave saint Pio of Pietrelcina, Capuchin Priest, the great privilege of participating in a unique way in the Passion of Your Son, grant me through his intercession the grace of ........... which I ardently desire; and, above all, grant me the grace of living in conformity with the death of Jesus, to arrive at the glory of the resurrection.

Glory be to the father … (three times).

2. Efficacious Novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

The following novena prayer was recited every day by Padre Pio for all those who asked his prayers. The faithful are invited to recite it daily, so as to be spiritually united with the prayer of Padre Pio.

O my Jesus, you have said: "Truly I say to you, ask and it will be given you, seek and you will find, knock and it will be opened to you." Behold I knock, I seek and ask for the grace of ……

Our Father… Hail Mary… Glory be to the Father… Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you.

O my Jesus, you have said "Truly I say to you, if you ask anything of the Father in my name, he will give it to you." Behold in your name I ask the Father for the grace of….

Our Father… Hail Mary… Glory be to the Father… Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you.

My Jesus, you have said "Truly I say to you, heaven and earth will pass away but my words will not pass away." Encouraged by your infallible words I now ask for the grace of …

Our Father… Hail Mary… Glory be to the Father… Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you.

O Sacred Heart of Jesus, for whom it is impossible not to have compassion on the afflicted, have pity on us miserable sinners and grant us the grace which we ask of you, through the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, your tender Mother and ours.

Say the Hail, Holy Queen and add: St Joseph, foster father of Jesus, pray for us.

3. Way of the Cross

Padre Pio declared that, after the Mass and the Rosary, the Way of the Cross was the most acceptable devotion to Almighty God, and great graces would be granted to those who made it devoutly, in atonement for their sins and the sins of the world.

Consider each station of the cross. At each station meditate on the sufferings of Jesus and your Beloved Mother. Put you own intentions into each station and pray the following:

We adore Thee O Christ and we bless Thee, because by Thy Holy Cross Thou hast redeemed the World

Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God Have mercy on us.

Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us now, and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Dear Jesus, by the merits of your Passion and Cross, we present to you all our petitions………"

Glory be to the Father ........

(In thankgiving)

4. Act of Entrustment to Saint Pio

O glorious saint Pio of Pietrelcina, the saint of this new millennium, you're our friend, consoler of our soul and help of us sinners.  You understand us so well for you know what it means to suffer.  To you we entrust our wellbeing and that of our loved ones; to you we entrust our spirit that we may be able to endure the pains we carry in our hearts; to you we entrust the request of presenting our souls to the Virgin of Grace to obtain eternal salvation from the Lord; to you we entrust our plea of intercession to obtain from the Divine Goodness the grace........ which we so ardently desire.  Welcome us under your protection, defend us from the snares of evil and, above all, intercede for us before the Most high so that, through the forgiveness of sins, we may presevere in doing good.  Through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
"Glory be to the father..." (three times)

5. Prayer to saint Pio of Pietrelcina composed by Pop John Paul II

"Teach us, we pray you, humility so that we may be amoung the humble to whom the Father in the Gospel promised to reveal the mysteries of His Kingdom.  Teach us the look of faith that will help us recognise the face of Jesus Himself in the poor and suffering.  Support us in our hours of trouble and trial and should we fall, let us feel the joy of the sacrament of forgiveness.  Teach us tender devotion towards Maria, mother of Christ and our Mother.  Accompany us on our earthly pilgrimage towards the blessed homeland, where we, too, hope to arrive to contemplate eternally the Glory of The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit. Amen

6. The following reflection is from Stella Lilley's book "on the road with Padre Pio".

7. The Padre Pio Prayer Groups Hymn - Stay with me Lord (Resta Con Me)

Stay with me Lord, Thou know’st how Thee I can forget,

Stay with me Lord, Thou know’st without Thy strength I fall

Stay with me Lord, for without Thee my fervour fails,

Stay with me Lord, Thou art my light, Thou art my Life

Chorus: Resta con me,* O nostro Signore, Resta con me.*

Stay with me Lord, and show to me Thy holy will,

And let my soul a place of consolation be,

Stay with me Lord, for I desire to follow Thee,

Stay with me Lord, that I may always stay with Thee

Stay with me Jesus, now for it is getting late,

Stay with me Lord, the day is ending life will pass

Stay with me Lord, so I don’t falter on the way

Stay with me Lord, I need Thee now as journey ends

Stay with me Lord, since death is near remain with me

Unite my soul at last with Thee, through grace and love

Stay with me then, thou undeserving, comfort me

And grant me then the gift of knowing Thou are near

Stay with me Lord, for Thee alone I seek and love,

I ask Thy love, Thy grace, Thy heart, Thy holy will

Stay with me Lord, for Thee I love and Thee alone,

I ask no more… to love Thee now, and evermore.

RESTA CON ME* ( pronounced "may")
